Trump's Tariffs on Steel, Aluminum Imports May Double for Canada

Washington, DC – President Donald Trump's planned 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports would be叠加on top of existing levies on Canadian goods, bringing the total tariff to 50%, according to a White House official.

Canada has not been officially informed of this potential escalation, but a government source told Reuters it is "plausible." Just this month, Trump implemented 25% tariffs on most Canadian imports but these were later paused for 30 days.

On Monday, Trump signed executive orders increasing the US tariff rate on aluminum to 25% (from 10%) and eliminating country exemptions, quota deals, and product-specific tariff exclusions for both metals. The measure is set to take effect on March 12th.

Canada has expressed strong opposition to this decision, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calling it "unacceptable." According to The Canadian Press, Trudeau spoke with US Vice President JD Vance about the potential impact of these tariffs on Ohio, where Vance previously served as a US Senator.
