New FDIC and CFTC Heads Likely to be Appointed

According to sources, the Trump administration is expected to nominate new candidates to lead the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) rather than appointing the current acting heads to permanent positions.

President Trump appointed Travis Hill as acting FDIC chair in January 2020, following the departure of former Chairman Martin Gruenberg. Caroline Pham has served as acting CFTC chair since the same month.

Other potential candidates for the permanent FDIC chairmanship include Summer Mersinger, the senior Republican at the CFTC, while Brian Quintenz, a former Republican CFTC commissioner, is being considered for the CFTC role.

The White House, CFTC, and FDIC have not yet provided official comments on the matter.
