Trump Appoints Travis Hill as Acting Head of FDIC

Newly sworn-in President Donald Trump has selected Travis Hill, current Vice Chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), to lead the agency in an interim capacity. Hill is widely considered the frontrunner for the permanent role.

With over a decade of experience in banking policy and regulation in Washington, D.C., Hill has held the position of FDIC Vice Chair since 2023. He previously advised former FDIC Chair Jelena McWilliams during Trump's first term.

Prior to joining the FDIC, Hill served as counsel on the Senate Banking Committee, where he played a key role in legislation that provided regulatory relief for smaller regional banks.

At the FDIC, Hill has voiced opposition to strict capital requirements for large banks (the "Basel III endgame") and efforts to impose new rules on asset managers with significant banking interests.

Hill's appointment comes amidst an agency overhaul following allegations of widespread sexual harassment and employee mistreatment. He has pledged to revamp the FDIC's culture and policies, including holding employees accountable for misconduct.
