Tesla Joins Automakers in EU Tariffs Challenge

Automotive giant Tesla has filed a lawsuit with the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) against the EU's tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs). The challenge aligns Tesla with BMW and several Chinese producers, amplifying industry opposition to the import duties.

The lawsuit marks a new phase in the EU's ongoing dispute with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has faced scrutiny over his social media platform X. The EU imposed the tariffs in October following an investigation into alleged Chinese subsidies. Tesla's 7.8% tariff rate is lower than its competitors.

The case filed at the CJEU's General Court adds to similar challenges brought by BMW, BYD, Geely, SAIC, and CCCME. Proceedings are expected to last approximately 18 months with the possibility of appeals.
