OpenAI Rejects Elon Musk's $97.4 Billion Bid

[City, Date] - OpenAI has rejected an unsolicited $97.4 billion bid from a consortium led by Elon Musk, affirming that the startup is not for sale.

This latest attempt by Musk, who co-founded OpenAI but later left, aims to prevent the non-profit organization from transitioning into a for-profit entity. The move is seen as an attempt to secure additional funding and maintain a competitive edge in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry.

"OpenAI is not for sale, and the board has unanimously rejected Mr. Musk's latest attempt to disrupt his competition," said Chairman Bret Taylor on behalf of the board. "Any potential reorganization of OpenAI will strengthen our nonprofit status and our mission to ensure artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity."

Altman and Musk have had ongoing disagreements for years. Following Musk's departure in 2019, OpenAI established a for-profit arm that has attracted billions in funding, prompting accusations from Musk that the startup had deviated from its original mission by prioritizing profit over the public interest.
