OpenAI CEO Dismisses Musk's Unsolicited Bid, Accuses Him of Delay Tactics

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has unequivocally stated that the company is "not for sale," casting aspersions on Elon Musk's recent unsolicited bid as an attempt to hinder its progress.

Musk's Competitive Motivation

Altman expressed his belief that Musk's actions stem from competitive motivations. "I think he is probably just trying to slow us down," Altman said. "He obviously is a competitor."

Previous Friction and Musk's Insecurity

Altman revealed a history of animosity between Musk and OpenAI, particularly regarding Musk's concerns about OpenAI deviating from its non-profit origins. Altman previously rejected a $97.4 billion offer led by Musk with a jest, offering to purchase Twitter for $9.74 billion instead. Altman also suggested Musk's actions may be driven by insecurity.

OpenAI's Strategic Options and Mission Stability

Altman indicated that OpenAI's board was exploring various strategic options for the future but that selling the company was not under consideration. "OpenAI is not for sale. The OpenAI mission is not for sale," he asserted.
