Mexico Halts Tariffs After Talks with Trump on Border Security

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that tariffs with the United States have been suspended for a month after discussions with President Donald Trump.

The agreement involves Mexico deploying 10,000 National Guard troops to the U.S. border to combat drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl. In exchange, the United States will endeavor to curb the flow of high-powered weapons into Mexico.

"Our teams will begin collaborating immediately in two areas: security and commerce," Sheinbaum stated in a public announcement via X.

Trump had previously imposed 25% tariffs on all Mexican goods, prompting Mexico to threaten retaliatory tariffs. Following the negotiations, however, Mexico agreed to suspend these measures.

The agreement led to a reversal in the peso's trajectory, which had previously fallen against the dollar.
