Google Maps Updates Landmark Names Per Executive Order

Following an executive order by President Trump, Google Maps will update its database to reflect the following name changes:

* The Gulf of Mexico will become the "Gulf of America" for U.S. users.
* Denali, North America's highest peak, will revert to its former name of Mount McKinley.

These changes will be implemented once the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) reflects the updated names.

International Variations

The name changes may not be universally adopted internationally. According to Google, countries with competing claims over geographic features will continue to display the corresponding official names within their respective borders.
