Elon Musk's xAI Unveils Grok-3 Chatbot to Rival DeepSeek, OpenAI, and Google

Amid the AI arms race, xAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup, has launched Grok-3, the latest iteration of its chatbot. This move positions xAI as a direct competitor to Chinese AI firm DeepSeek, Microsoft-backed OpenAI, and Alphabet's Google.

Grok-3's release comes at a pivotal moment in AI development, following DeepSeek's unveiling of its powerful open-source model. Musk is driving xAI's expansion in a bid to establish the company's influence in the field.

The chatbot is initially accessible to Premium+ subscribers on Musk's social media platform, X. xAI is also introducing SuperGrok, a new subscription tier for users accessing Grok-3 through its mobile app and website.

"Grok-3 surpasses its predecessors by far," stated Musk during a livestream alongside xAI engineers. Grok-3 reportedly delivers superior performance compared to its previous version, Grok-2.

Musk recently led a consortium of investors in a rejected $97.4 billion offer to acquire OpenAI's nonprofit assets. He reaffirmed xAI's commitment to open-source AI, announcing plans to release earlier versions of Grok after Grok-3 reaches full maturity, anticipated within months.

Grok-3 introduces DeepSearch, a smart search engine. xAI describes DeepSearch as a reasoning-based chatbot that explains its thought process when responding to user inquiries. During the livestream, DeepSearch demonstrated capabilities in research, brainstorming, and data analysis.

To support the training of advanced models, xAI is expanding its data center infrastructure. Bloomberg News reports that xAI is seeking up to $10 billion in funding, potentially valuing the company at approximately $75 billion.
