CATL Resumes Lithium Production in Jiangxi Province

Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has restarted operations at its lithium lepidolite mine and refinery in Jiangxi province, China. The spokesperson for CATL's joint venture partner, Lopal Tech, confirmed the resumption on Tuesday.

Thanks to successful cost reduction efforts, the mine is currently producing over 2,000 tons of lithium carbonate monthly, with plans to scale up to 3,000 tons. The mine's closure in September had spurred a rally in lithium stocks.

CATL's mine in Jiangxi is a significant contributor to China's lithium supply, making the news of its reopening significant for the industry. Lithium carbonate futures on the Guangzhou Futures Exchange saw a 1.6% decline on Tuesday, while CATL's stock price closed 2.6% lower on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
