Cargill to Close Arkansas Turkey-Processing Plant, Cut 1,100 Jobs

Cargill Inc. announced plans to close its turkey-processing plant in Springdale, Arkansas, resulting in the loss of approximately 1,100 jobs. The shutdown is scheduled for August, with production shifting to facilities in Missouri and Virginia.

The closure comes amid a decline in both the turkey and agriculture industries. Cargill, the world's largest commodity trader, cited challenging market conditions as the reason for the decision.

"This decision was made with careful consideration and is intended to strengthen the long-term viability of our turkey business," Cargill stated in a release. "Turkey remains a core component of our protein portfolio."

The company, which also operates beef production and crop processing businesses, has faced financial pressure in recent years due to low crop prices. Cargill previously announced plans to cut approximately 5% of its workforce of 164,000 employees.
