Boeing CEO Praises Elon Musk's Role in Improving Air Force One Delivery

Kelly Ortberg, CEO of Boeing, has credited Elon Musk with significantly aiding the company's efforts to deliver delayed Air Force One planes.

Musk's Technical Expertise and Efficiency

Ortberg described Musk as "a brilliant guy" who quickly grasps technical requirements and can identify areas for improvement. "He's helping us in a big way," Ortberg said at a Barclays investor conference.

DOGE Team Collaboration

Ortberg also highlighted the collaboration with the DOGE team, a government efficiency commission headed by Musk. He said, "We're working with the DOGE team to help us improve the delivery."

Boeing's Project Challenges

Boeing was awarded a $3.9 billion contract in 2018 to build two Air Force One replacement aircraft. The initial delivery deadline was 2024, but delays have pushed it to at least 2027. Boeing has reportedly lost over $2 billion on the project.

Musk's Criticism and Support

Musk has publicly expressed his views on Boeing, criticizing former CEO Dave Calhoun. However, he has also praised Ortberg's leadership, suggesting that the company is "on a much better track" under her guidance.

Boeing's Financial Performance

Boeing's stock declined 2.83% on Thursday and has lost over 10% in the past year. In January 2023, the company reported a net loss of $3.86 billion in the fourth quarter of 2022 and nearly $12 billion for the entire year.
