Safran CEO Predicts Boeing 737 MAX Production Milestones in 2023

Safran's CEO Olivier Andries expressed confidence that Boeing will achieve key production targets for the 737 MAX this year.

Increased Production Forecasts

Andries expects Boeing to produce 38 MAX aircraft per month during the first half of 2023 and reach 42 per month by year-end. This increase follows a strong start to the year, with Boeing surpassing Airbus in monthly deliveries.

Importance of Engine Makers' Input

Safran, along with GE Aerospace, co-owns CFM International, the engine supplier for the 737 MAX. Insights from engine makers offer valuable perspectives on production plans.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Restrictions

After an incident last year, the FAA imposed a cap on 737 MAX production at 38 aircraft per month. Boeing must meet safety metrics before the restriction is lifted.

Current Production and Future Targets

Sources indicate Boeing is currently producing less than 30 MAX aircraft per month. Boeing has not confirmed a timeline for reaching 42 aircraft per month, but its CEO, Kelly Ortberg, anticipates approval and achievement of this milestone later in the year.

Supply Chain Concerns

Despite production expectations, Safran cautions that supply chain challenges remain a risk to growth.
