Barrenjoey Expands International Presence with Hong Kong Office

Barrenjoey, an Australian financial services firm, has established a new office in Hong Kong to enhance its offerings for clients in equity sales, research, and trading.

The expansion strengthens Barrenjoey's presence in Asia and brings its equity team closer to its customer base in the region. Head of Equities Chris Williams highlighted the strategic significance of the new office in a statement.

The company's acquisition of Forsyth Barr Asia Ltd. accelerated its growth in Hong Kong, according to Equities Chief Operating Officer Klaudia Szargawinska. This move marks Barrenjoey's second office outside Australia, following its launch in Abu Dhabi in 2023.

Since its inception in 2020, Barrenjoey has rapidly expanded to over 360 employees, securing key merger transactions and equity capital markets deals. The firm was founded by former UBS Group AG executives Matthew Grounds and Guy Fowler and is backed by Barclays Plc.

Barrenjoey's Hong Kong office is led by Angus McGeoch, head of Asia distribution, and currently has a team of approximately three staff members.
