US-China Trade War Likely This Year, Warns Eurasia Group Founder

Eurasia Group founder and president Ian Bremmer anticipates a trade war between the US and China in 2023, with President Donald Trump's second term looming.

"There's a fight that's coming," Bremmer stated in an interview with Yahoo Finance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Trump's advisors advocate for decoupling the US economy from China's, with planned tariffs of 10% and 25% on Chinese, Mexican, and Canadian goods.

However, Bremmer believes that China is unlikely to capitulate to Trump's demands, as its economy faces challenges.

"We're heading towards a trade war with China this year," Bremmer asserted.

Another factor complicating US-China relations is the fate of TikTok, which was banned in the US but recently gained a reprieve from Trump.

"What Trump is saying he wants to do with TikTok is completely at odds with legislation passed by Congress," Bremmer noted.

Additionally, Bremmer warns of a "G-Zero" order where no single power or group of powers can drive a global agenda or maintain international order.

"It's the law of the jungle," he said. "The powerful do what they want, and everyone else suffers."

Bremmer also criticized the "globalist promise" of accountability, claiming that people no longer believe in it.
