Air Liquide: Only Two Hydrogen Projects May Proceed Amid Funding Freeze

Air Liquide announced that funding restrictions imposed by President Trump may limit the number of hydrogen projects it can pursue in the U.S.

Impact on Department of Energy Projects

Air Liquide was previously awarded six hydrogen projects by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE). However, due to Trump's funding freeze, only two projects focused on hydrogen from natural gas with carbon capture are expected to progress.

Renewable Energy Policies

CEO François Jackow emphasized that the fate of the remaining four hydrogen hubs hinges on the new administration's stance on renewable energy.

Investments in Clean Energy Transition

Despite the funding freeze, Air Liquide remains committed to the U.S. clean energy transition. The company has invested in partnerships such as the low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia production project with Exxon Mobil in Texas.

Other U.S. Business

Air Liquide's U.S. operations encompass more than hydrogen. It supplies industrial gases to chipmaker Micron Technology and LG Chem's electric vehicle battery plant.

Battery Sector Outlook

Jackow predicted limited announcements in the battery sector over the next six months. However, he expressed confidence in ongoing customer projects.

Tariff Impact

Jackow downplayed the potential impact of Trump's tariffs on Air Liquide's U.S. business, attributing it to the company's local sourcing of materials.
