Taiwanese Chipmaker TSMC Resumes Operations After Earthquake

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), a prominent manufacturer of semiconductors and supplier to major tech companies, reports that all its manufacturing facilities are operational following a 6.4-magnitude earthquake in southern Taiwan.

Precautionary Evacuations and Structural Inspections

TSMC evacuated employees at some central and southern Taiwan sites as a precautionary measure after the earthquake, which struck shortly after midnight on Tuesday. The company has since conducted thorough structural inspections at all sites, confirming their safety and the gradual resumption of operations.

Restoration of Utilities and Ongoing Assessments

Water, power, and safety systems are functioning normally at all TSMC sites. Detailed inspections and impact assessments are ongoing to evaluate the earthquake's effects fully.

Unaffected Construction Sites

TSMC's construction sites remained operational after passing environmental safety checks.

Injured Treated, Electricity Restored

Taiwan's fire department reports that 27 people received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the earthquake. Taipower confirmed that electricity has been restored to all households affected by the blackout.

Seismic Activity in Taiwan

Taiwan, situated at the junction of tectonic plates, is prone to earthquakes. The last major earthquake occurred in April, a 7.2-magnitude event that struck the eastern Hualien county and claimed 13 lives.
