Trump to Declare Energy Emergency, Roll Back Climate Regulations

President-elect Donald Trump plans to invoke emergency powers to unleash domestic energy production and reverse President Joe Biden's climate change initiatives.

The actions will include compelling policy shifts to enable new oil and gas development on federal lands and rolling back Biden-era climate regulations.

Trump has vowed to declare a national energy emergency to increase output and meet growing demand. An emergency declaration grants presidents access to special powers intended for crises like hurricanes.

Trump could also tap into Cold War-era statutes, such as the Defense Production Act, to support renewable energy technologies.

Trump is also expected to lift a moratorium on liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, rescind federal incentives for electric vehicles, and reverse Biden's withdrawal of US waters for oil and gas leasing.

The legality of these actions will likely be challenged in federal courts. A previous attempt by Trump to reverse an Obama-era Arctic waters withdrawal was rejected by a district court.
