Trump Nominee Advocates for Country-Specific Tariffs to Promote Trade Reciprocity

WASHINGTON - Howard Lutnick, President Trump's nominee for Commerce Secretary, has recommended a country-by-country approach to tariffs to establish trade fairness and reciprocity.

During his Senate confirmation hearing, Lutnick stated, "My recommendation to the President is to implement tariffs on a macro level, country by country."

Emphasizing the disparity in trade practices, Lutnick said, "We are subject to high tariffs, non-tariff barriers, and subsidies in the global trading environment. It's imperative that we address this imbalance and demand fair treatment."

The proposed tariffs, Lutnick believes, would foster reciprocity and respect in international trade agreements.
