Tesla Faces Popularity Test in Germany Amid Political Controversies

In January, Tesla witnessed a significant decline in car sales in Germany, with a 59.5% drop to 1,277 newly registered vehicles. This contrast with the overall German market, which experienced a modest 2.8% decline to 207,000 vehicles.

Despite the overall growth in battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales, which rose by 53.5% to nearly 34,500 units, Tesla's market share appears to be slipping. Recent data shows similar declines in Sweden and Norway.

Tesla's German sales slump coincides with increased political scrutiny of CEO Elon Musk. Musk's outspoken views on politics and his support for former U.S. President Donald Trump have drawn criticism from European leaders, including the Prime Minister of Norway and the Chancellor of Germany.

Musk has defended his actions as a defense of democracy and free speech. However, his controversial statements have raised questions about Tesla's popularity in Europe.
