Southwest Airlines Transformation Officer Resigns

Ryan Green, Chief Transformation Officer at Southwest Airlines, will step down from his role effective April 1, 2025. The company announced the news in a recent SEC filing.

Green's departure comes after Southwest's agreement with activist investor Elliott Investment Management. As part of the amended cooperation agreement, Elliott's maximum allowable stake has been raised to 19.9%, up from 14.9%.

Green has been responsible for Southwest's transformation strategy, including initiatives such as assigned and premium seating. His resignation follows the company's decision to cut approximately 1,750 corporate jobs to reduce costs.

Elliott had previously advocated for a board overhaul and the removal of Chairman Garry Kelly and CEO Bob Jordan. In October 2022, Southwest and Elliott reached an agreement that retained Jordan's position and accelerated Kelly's retirement.
