Samsung Nominates Chip Executives and Semiconductor Expert to Boost Competitiveness

Seoul, Republic of Korea - Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday the nomination of Jun Young-hyun, its chip business chief, and Song Jai-hyuk, its Chief Technology Officer, to its board of directors. The move aims to enhance the tech giant's competitiveness in its semiconductor business.

In addition, Samsung nominated Lee Hyuk-jae, a chip expert and head of Seoul National University's semiconductor research center, as an outside director.

These appointments reflect Samsung's strategic focus on strengthening its capabilities in the chip sector. The company has faced challenges in regaining market dominance in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, losing out to rival SK Hynix.

The new board nominations will be subject to shareholder approval at a meeting scheduled for March 19, 2023.
