Rivian Opens Van Sales to Fleets of All Sizes in the US

Rivian, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has expanded van sales to fleets of all sizes in the United States. This move comes over a year after the company ended its exclusive deal with shareholder Amazon.

Known for its R1S SUVs and R1T pickup trucks, Rivian has witnessed increased demand for its commercial vans. The company has conducted trials with large fleets to test and fine-tune its vehicles.

Van sales, alongside plans to release the smaller and more affordable R2 SUVs in 2026, will play a critical role in Rivian's success, especially as broader EV demand faces challenges due to higher borrowing costs.

"Rivian has been piloting its commercial van with several large fleets in the U.S. and preparing its fleet management process for the mass market," the company stated. "These pilots have paved the way for Rivian to open sales further."

Rivian terminated its exclusive van sales agreement with Amazon in late 2023, but it remains committed to fulfilling an order for 100,000 vans by 2030. Amazon currently operates 20,000 Rivian vans in its fleet.

Following the end of the Amazon deal, AT&T became the first company to acquire Rivian vans for a pilot program. However, the number of vehicles purchased and the financial terms remain undisclosed.

Rivian's van sales expansion comes months after it resolved component shortages that affected production. Last month, the company exceeded analysts' expectations for fourth-quarter deliveries. To enhance its financial performance, Rivian has initiated cost-cutting measures, including renegotiating supplier contracts and optimizing manufacturing processes.

Rivian is scheduled to release its fourth-quarter financial results on February 20.
