OpenAI to Debut Super Bowl Ad, Marking First TV Commercial for ChatGPT Maker

ChatGPT creator OpenAI is preparing to premiere its inaugural televised commercial during the highly anticipated Super Bowl on Sunday, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal. Known for its massive audience, the Super Bowl offers a coveted platform for advertisers, particularly those seeking to showcase their creativity through memorable commercials.

This ad would represent OpenAI's initial venture into traditional advertising. Competitors like Google have previously run ads promoting their AI capabilities during the Super Bowl. OpenAI has not yet responded to Reuters' request for comment.

Ad space during the 2023 Super Bowl reportedly costs approximately $8 million for a 30-second spot. The 2024 edition garnered an audience of approximately 210 million viewers.

The upcoming 59th Super Bowl will commence on February 9 at 6:30 p.m. ET (2330 GMT), hosted at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, home to the New Orleans Saints, with a capacity of 83,000 spectators.

OpenAI, partially owned by Microsoft, launched ChatGPT in late 2022, which has since surpassed 300 million active weekly users. According to media reports, OpenAI recently hired its first Chief Marketing Officer, Kate Rouch, in December 2022. The company is reportedly seeking to raise $40 billion in funding at a valuation of $300 billion.
