US Lawmakers Urge Export Restrictions on Nvidia AI Chips Citing Chinese Concerns

Two US Congressional members have called on the Trump administration to consider limiting the export of artificial intelligence (AI) chips manufactured by Nvidia. The move is recommended within the context of a comprehensive review of the US export control system initiated by the White House.

The request was made by House Select Committee on China leaders John Moolenaar (Republican) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (Democrat). They cited allegations that DeepSeek, a Chinese AI firm, has extensively utilized Nvidia's H20 chips, which currently fall outside the purview of US export controls.

In a letter addressed to National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, the lawmakers emphasized the potential national security benefits of imposing export controls on the H20 and comparable high-end chips. They stressed the need to scrutinize the impact of these chip exports in light of recent strategic advancements by adversaries.

Nvidia responded through a statement, affirming its adherence to government-mandated product requirements. The company expressed readiness to collaborate with the administration in its approach to AI regulation.

DeepSeek and the White House have yet to provide official comments on the request.
