Nissan, Honda to Outline Integration Plan by Mid-February

TOKYO (Reuters) - Nissan Motor will announce the direction of its potential integration with Honda Motor by mid-February, a company spokesperson said Friday.

The Japanese automakers have been discussing a merger by 2026, fueled by the growing threat from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.

"The two companies had planned to decide on the integration direction by the end of January, but the Integration Preparatory Committee discussions are ongoing," the spokesperson said.

In December, Nissan and Honda aimed to conclude talks by June, before establishing a holding company by August 2026.

Renault, Nissan's long-time partner, has expressed support for the potential merger. The French automaker holds 36% of Nissan, including 18.7% through a French trust.

Sources recently informed Reuters that Mitsubishi Motors, a smaller alliance partner, may opt out of the proposed merger.
