Metaplanet Announces $745 Million Fundraise for Bitcoin Acquisition

Japanese publicly traded company Metaplanet plans to raise $745 million to acquire 21,000 BTC by 2026. This investment is part of Metaplanet's strategy to strengthen its position in the cryptocurrency market and mitigate the yen's declining value.

On January 29th, Metaplanet issued 21 million shares of 0% discount moving strike warrants, facilitating this capital raise. The company claims this is the largest equity funding in Asia dedicated to Bitcoin acquisition.

Metaplanet aims to bolster its Bitcoin holdings to 10,000 BTC by Q4 2025, potentially costing over $1 billion at current market prices.

Simon Gerovich, Metaplanet's representative director, stated the company is recognized as a leader in Tokyo's Bitcoin market. He emphasized that this capital raise will solidify Metaplanet's role in Japan's "Bitcoin renaissance."

Currently, Metaplanet is the 15th-largest corporate Bitcoin holder. Since adopting Bitcoin as a treasury asset in April 2024, Metaplanet has reported significant growth, including a 309% BTC yield in Q4 2024 and a 41% yield in the previous quarter. Additionally, Metaplanet's shareholder base has expanded to over 50,000, with trading volume increasing by 430 times year-over-year.
