Canadian MDA Space Extends Globalstar Satellite Contract to C$1.1 Billion

MDA Space announced an expanded contract with Globalstar to develop advanced digital low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, bringing the total contract value to approximately C$1.1 billion ($767.19 million).

Under the agreement, MDA Space will manufacture over 50 satellites to support Globalstar's competitive position in the growing satellite services market. The Canadian space technology company will add C$750 million to its backlog in the first quarter of fiscal 2025, supplementing the C$350 million recognized at the deal's initial announcement in late 2023.

Covington, Louisiana-based Globalstar, partially owned by Apple, operates LEO satellites for voice and data communications, as well as observation services for diverse customers.

"With the complete contract now in place, we are actively progressing the program," stated MDA Space CEO Mike Greenley.
