BOJ Nominates Female Academic, Junko Koeda, to Policy Board

Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's government has nominated Waseda University Professor Junko Koeda to join the Bank of Japan's nine-member policy setting board in March 2023.

Koeda, 49, is set to replace Seiji Adachi, whose five-year term expires on March 25. She previously served as chief economist at the Finance Ministry and an economist at the International Monetary Fund.

Koeda has advocated for reassessing the impact of prolonged ultra-low interest rates, arguing that it is desirable to normalize yield levels.
