Indonesia Poised to Lift iPhone 16 Ban with Apple Investment Agreement

Indonesia is nearing an agreement with Apple Inc., potentially lifting a ban on iPhone 16 sales implemented in October 2023. The ban stemmed from alleged non-compliance with domestic manufacturing regulations.

Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani believes a resolution is imminent, stating, "Hopefully within one or two weeks this issue can be resolved."

Apple's previous $1 billion offer for an Indonesian airtag production plant was rejected. However, the company is reportedly adjusting its investment plan to align with local content requirements.

Roeslani acknowledged discrepancies in calculations related to local content but expressed optimism for a resolution.

The agreement, once finalized, would lift the ban on iPhone 16 sales, allowing Apple to tap into Indonesia's vast consumer market.
