Humana Posts Q4 Loss, Beats Expectations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Humana Inc. (HUM) reported a net loss of $693 million in the fourth quarter of 2023. The Louisville, Kentucky-based health insurer recorded a loss per share of $5.76.

Excluding asset impairment and non-recurring expenses, Humana's adjusted loss came in at $2.16 per share, surpassing analysts' estimates of $2.26 per share. Zacks Investment Research surveyed 11 analysts to arrive at this consensus figure.

Humana generated $29.21 billion in revenue during the quarter, with adjusted revenue reaching $29.12 billion. Both figures exceeded analysts' expectations of $28.82 billion, based on Zacks' survey of six analysts.

For the full year, Humana reported a net income of $1.21 billion ($9.98 per share) on revenue of $117.21 billion.

Humana's full-year earnings guidance remains at $16.25 per share.
