Hong Kong Post Suspends U.S. Shipments Despite Reversal of U.S. Ban

Hong Kong, China - Hong Kong's postal service has announced the continued suspension of shipping to the United States until further notice, despite the U.S. Postal Service's reversal of its ban on parcels from the city and China.

Hongkong Post released a statement expressing ongoing discussions with the U.S. postal administration but emphasized the need for clarification on matters like tariffs. The statement condemned the U.S.' imposition of additional duties on Hong Kong products, urging immediate rectification.

The U.S. Post Office initially announced a suspension of parcels from China, citing additional tariffs and the elimination of a customs exemption for small-value shipments. However, the suspension was reversed within the same day, with no reason provided.

The short-lived ban and subsequent reversal have created confusion for businesses and individuals shipping to the U.S. from Hong Kong. Concerns have been raised over potential impacts on e-commerce platforms like Shein and Temu, which rely on low-cost direct postal services.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. imported over $427 billion in goods from China in 2023. Consumer electronics, including cell phones, computers, and accessories, are major import categories.
