Honda Willing to Reopen Merger Talks with Nissan, If Uchida Steps Down

Reuters reports that Honda is open to resuming takeover talks with Nissan, the world's third-largest automaker, but only if Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida resigns. Last week, merger negotiations between Honda and Nissan collapsed, ending plans to create a $60 billion automotive giant.

According to sources familiar with the discussions, Honda believes a new Nissan CEO would be better equipped to manage internal opposition and facilitate a successful merger. Uchida has expressed his intention to remain in his position until 2026, but faces pressure from board members and partner Renault to step down due to his handling of the failed merger negotiations.

Nissan's board of directors is reportedly considering the timing of Uchida's departure and has initiated informal discussions regarding the matter.
