Norwegian Line and Fincantieri Announce Landmark Deal for Four Cruise Liners

Norwegian Line Holdings (NCL) and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri have inked an agreement for the construction of four state-of-the-art cruise liners. This multibillion-dollar deal, valued at approximately 9 billion euros ($9.34 billion), marks the single largest order ever received by Fincantieri.

The new vessels, to be built at Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard, will be delivered between 2030 and 2036. Each ship will have a gross tonnage of 226,000 and a capacity to accommodate over 8,300 passengers and crew.

This agreement is a testament to NCL's confidence in Fincantieri's shipbuilding prowess. Fincantieri has previously delivered two ships for NCL and is currently building a third, the Norwegian Aqua.

Beyond its core shipbuilding business, Fincantieri is also expanding into the defense and underwater segments. The company recently acquired Leonardo's UAS, boosting its submarine capabilities. Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero has also expressed interest in collaborations with Thyssenkrupp's warship division.

This landmark deal has boosted Fincantieri's shares on the Milan bourse, making it one of the top-performing stocks over the past year. The stock surged by 5.6% in early trade and was up by 2.83% at 0821 GMT.
