Facebook Shortens Live Video Storage to 30 Days

Facebook has announced a new policy that will limit the storage period for live videos to 30 days. This change, effective Wednesday, will result in the deletion of all live videos older than 30 days from the platform.

User Options and Notifications

Users will receive notifications 90 days before their videos are scheduled for deletion. During this period, they can:

* Download the videos to their devices
* Transfer them to cloud storage
* Convert them into reels

Industry Standards and Reel Promotion

Facebook states that the policy change aligns with industry standards and aims to enhance the live video experience. The company is also promoting its Reels feature, allowing users to preserve memorable moments from live videos.

Competition and Storage Duration

Twitch, a major competitor to Facebook Live, stores broadcasts for 60 days for partners and affiliates. Regular streamers have a 14-day storage period. YouTube stores live broadcasts indefinitely by converting them into regular videos.

Deferral and Download Tools

Users can defer deletion for six months if they need more time to download their videos. Facebook has introduced new download tools to simplify the process, including bulk downloads.
