Ecuador Imposes 27% Tariff on Mexican Goods

QUITO - President Daniel Noboa of Ecuador has announced the implementation of a 27% tariff on Mexican imports to ensure fair treatment for Ecuadorian businesses.

In a statement, Noboa emphasized his support for increased trade cooperation, particularly a potential free trade agreement with Mexico. However, he noted that such an agreement must address concerns of unfair practices.

The tariff measure follows the suspension of diplomatic relations between Ecuador and Mexico last year. The South American nation is scheduled to hold general elections this Sunday.

The Mexican Ministry of Economy has not yet commented on the new tariff.
