DeepSeek Restricts API Access Amid Server Capacity Shortages

DeepSeek, the Chinese AI startup that caused market volatility last week, has announced restrictions on its API service due to server capacity issues.

Key Points:

* Customers can no longer top up their API credits indefinitely.
* Existing stored values remain unaffected.
* Discounts for model access will end on February 8th.
* Access fees will be 2 yuan per million input tokens and 8 yuan per million output tokens (for the chat model).

The announcement follows overwhelming demand for DeepSeek's services since its AI chatbot launch, which drew comparisons to ChatGPT and raised concerns among US officials.

DeepSeek also confirmed that its reasoning model, when released, will charge 4 yuan per million input tokens and 16 yuan per million output tokens.
