CN, IBEW Reach Tentative Agreement, Averting Strike

Canadian National Railway Company (CN) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers of Canada (IBEW) have reached a tentative four-year contract agreement, averting a potential strike that could have disrupted a significant portion of CN's revenue.

The union, representing approximately 750 signals and communications employees across Canada, had been working without a contract since December 31, 2024. Negotiations between the two parties commenced on September 24, 2024, with a 72-hour strike notice issued by the IBEW last weekend.

Details of the agreement have not been disclosed and will remain confidential until the contract is ratified by both parties. The potential strike, which could have impacted over a third of CN's revenue tied to U.S. trade, has now been narrowly avoided.
