Chevron Rebrands Gulf of Mexico as "Gulf of America"

Chevron, a leading U.S. oil producer, has officially adopted the term "Gulf of America" in its recent fourth-quarter press release. This move aligns with President Donald Trump's executive order to rename the ocean basin.

Google Maps plans to implement the name change once it is updated in the U.S. Geographic Names System, although the revised name will only be visible within the United States.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has expressed disapproval of Google's decision to change the name, while other energy companies such as Hess and Shell have retained the traditional "Gulf of Mexico" designation in their earnings releases. Exxon Mobil has not referenced the gulf in its financial reports.
