OpenAI's o3 Mini Reasoning AI Model to Launch Soon

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has finalized and plans to release o3 mini, a new version of its reasoning AI model, within the next few weeks, CEO Sam Altman announced on X, a social media platform.

Following user feedback, OpenAI will simultaneously launch o3 mini and its application programming interface (API), according to Altman.

In December 2023, OpenAI announced the testing of o3 and o3 mini models, demonstrating increased competition with Google in developing advanced models that can tackle complex problems.

OpenAI initially intended to release o3 mini by January and the full o3 model later, but the company's robust large language models have shown potential to outperform existing ones and attract investments and users.

In September 2024, OpenAI introduced the o1 AI model, designed to process queries thoroughly for complex problem-solving. According to the company, o1 models can handle complex tasks and solve more challenging problems in science, coding, and math.

The company previously stated that o3 and o3 mini models would be more powerful than the o1 models.

Earlier this week, OpenAI introduced Tasks, a beta feature for ChatGPT that facilitates its use as a virtual assistant and competes with Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa.

ChatGPT's release in late 2022 has led to increased investment in AI companies, with OpenAI securing $6.6 billion in funding in October due to its popularity and new product launches.
