Chinese Automaker BYD Collaborates with DeepSeek on Autonomous Technology Development

Shenzhen, China - BYD (1211.HK), China's largest automaker, has partnered with DeepSeek, a China-based generative AI company, to advance its autonomous technology. This collaboration poses potential challenges for competitors like Tesla (TSLA), given DeepSeek's competitive AI capabilities.

BYD has been cautious in its approach to autonomous technology compared to Tesla but is now rolling out its "God's Eye" advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) across its vehicle lineup. The system leverages BYD's Xuanji architecture, combining onboard chips, cloud computing, and AI, connected to DeepSeek's R1 AI model for enhanced capabilities.

Tesla, known for its investment in autonomous technology, has faced regulatory hurdles in China, preventing the rollout of its FSD features. Despite its global progress, BYD's offering of autonomous software in its more affordable EVs poses a threat to Tesla's dominance in the crucial Chinese market.

While BYD's partnership with DeepSeek strengthens its technological position, the current 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs in the US market imposed by the previous administration present a barrier for BYD's immediate entry into the US.
