Arm to Debut In-House Chip with Meta as First Customer

Arm Holdings intends to introduce its initial proprietary chip this year, marking a significant shift from its established practice of licensing designs to external companies. Meta Platforms is confirmed as an inaugural customer.

According to the Financial Times, Arm's CEO, Rene Haas, is poised to unveil the maiden in-house chip by this summer. Sources familiar with the company's plans indicate that the chip will serve as a central processing unit (CPU) for large data center servers, engineered on a customizable platform to cater to clients like Meta.

Arm plans to outsource production to a third-party manufacturer, such as TSMC. Both Arm and Meta have yet to respond to requests for comment.
