FAA: American Airlines Flight Collides with Helicopter Near Reagan Washington National Airport

American Airlines (AAL) flight 5342, operated by American Eagle, was involved in a midair collision with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter on Wednesday night while approaching Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

The FAA confirmed the incident, stating that the collision occurred at approximately 9 p.m. local time. The regional jet was departing from Wichita, Kansas, and the investigation will be led by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

American Airlines acknowledged the incident and stated that it would provide updates as available. The DC Police Department is conducting search and rescue operations in the Potomac River.
