Amazon Warehouse Workers in North Carolina Reject Unionization Proposal

Amazon workers at a fulfillment center in Garner, North Carolina have voted against joining a union, rejecting representation by the grassroots labor organization Carolina Amazonians United for Solidarity and Empowerment (CAUSE).

Voting Details:

* 2,447 workers voted against unionization
* 829 workers voted in favor of joining the union
* 4,300 workers were eligible to cast ballots

Recent Unionization Efforts:

* In Pennsylvania, Whole Foods Market workers voted to unionize, marking the first successful union entry into the grocery chain owned by Amazon.
* In Staten Island, New York, Amazon warehouse workers unionized with the Amazon Labor Union in 2022. However, Amazon has objected to the election results and refused negotiations.
* In Bessemer, Alabama, a third union election has been ordered by an NLRB administrative law judge due to alleged violations by Amazon.

CAUSE's Perspective:

CAUSE organizers have been advocating for unionization since January 2022, citing concerns about inadequate COVID-19 protections.

Amazon's Response:

Amazon maintains that it already provides many benefits sought by unions, including safe workplaces and competitive pay.

Statement from Amazon Spokesperson:

"We're glad that our team in Garner was able to have their voices heard, and that they chose to keep a direct relationship with Amazon," said Eileen Hards, Amazon spokesperson.
